    Electrical Questions

I have an auto 88 SETA that has a broken gear selector panel. I noticed I had 2 clipped wires so I decided to remove the entire center console to make sure nothing else in that area was cut. Turns out it was the gear illumination wire. So I fixed that.

I now have a few questions:

    1. While I was removing the center console I had to disconnect the rear ashtray light wires. There was a third wire (blue/white) that I could not find a connection for. After reading some and checking the ETM it appears that this may be the reverse light wire, something I never bothered to check and cannot check at the moment since I am in the middle of a tranny/engine seal/gasket replacement so the tranny is disconnected in most places and is almost ready to be pulled. If this is the reverse light wire, how is it routed to the tranny? I checked under the car and could not find an obvious route. I have attached a pic of the wire. Everything I've read is really, really specific to the manual tranny but that leaves us pour auto-tranny people needing to keep searching for an answer.

    2. I decided to pull the aftermarket stereo and install a stock stereo. The G/RD illumination wire for the stereo appears to ground out. Unfortunately I don't have much time during the evenings to trace wiring so most of my research is done during the day online (at work).
Today I found this thread from 2008: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1036897
Please tell me what is said in post 12 is true. From what I've been reading djb2 knows his stuff. I also don't want to chase my own tail with this wire.

    3. As already mentioned I have a auto (yes, I know). When the engine and tranny were in place, every once in a while the car would not start. By that I mean the engine won't crank but "everything else" sounds fine. All lights turn on on the instrument cluster and I can here clicking inside the engine bay (hood is off). The PO said that you simply have to jiggle the gear selector a bit and it will start. This is true. Any ideas on what would cause this to happen? Possibly the cut wires from the first question posted causing a short? If not that, what?

Any help would be awesome. Thanks.

neutral safety switch. it won't start unless the autotragic gear slector knob is in park or neutral, also you can't remove your key or some shit on most cars.
