    Engine rattle

I've got an '84 325E that rattles around 1500rpm. It sounds like it's coming from the front of the engine, but I can't tell where it's coming from specifically. The engine was rebuilt 5 years ago so I don't think it's anything internal. Any ideas?

I have a rattle now too, around 3500 though. I think it might not be new though, I removed all of the sound deadening in the car other than the lower firewall area and the left portion of the dash stuff. As I removed stuff I started hearing it hahaha.
    Jah bless! :pimp:

A rattle that seems to come from the front of the engine could be associated with any of the rotating parts located there (alternator, PS pump, A/C compressor, water pump, fan clutch, or timing belt tensioner). With the belts off you can check all of those for worn bearings or slop. If you pull the timing belt to check the tensioner, replace the belt.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

If you find nothing mechanical you may want to tap on your grilles and see if the clips are still there.

Thanks guys. Ha I know I'm missing some grille clips but I don't think that's it. I'll pull the belts and look around today. If anything I've got a spare water pump and alternator I can swap on.
