Making my air-con not drain so much power ?

About to re-gas my aircon because its summer in Australia and damn humid. Is there any way to make the e30 aircon more effective ? So it doesnt drain so much power from the engine ?

You can wire it up so that the ac switches off when you hit WOT. Look on www.bmwe30.net in the tech articles.

There is a rubber v-belt that drives the air conditioning compressor.

Remove the belt. If thats not enough, just removed the entire system. Its just extra wait.

There is no problem with flies where i live, that is more in the outback (desert). It's not really the heat at the moment its the damn humidity which is almost 100% everyday, combined with 30degrees++++ celcius (86fahrenheit++++) days, its an absolute killer wearing long pants a shirt and a tie.

I 'll try doing the wiring thing

At least you only have a short season of 30C & high humidity.........I get 365 days a year of it........miserable weather, and an aircon is absolutely necessary even when the top is down.

Re the flies........ever been to UK or US? Trust me pards, you have ALOT of flies even in cities ;)

Re your original question about the aircon........the best fix is to get your engine producing more power so it's not as noticeable.

            Good luck!

Can you underdrive the AC pulley? Certainly another option.

its cool that it can turn off under WOT, but wouldn't you rather just turn it off manually when you want? I mean, if you're "racing" or something, you're not WOT at the launch. then again, if you have power at the wheels you need traction regulation anyway

i just don't see the point
