    3rd Gear and 5th Wineing

    after couple of donuts in the snow last night. I drove the car to work to day and i notice a wining in the shift lever when the car its in 3th or 5th. It only wines when the car its moving doesnt do it when when its still. am thinkin Tranny oil? wat do u guys thnk?

    Couldnt hurt to drain and refill.

        Sure... but topping off the fluid might not help. Old worn gears tend to whine to some degree.

          Also, if your input shaft bearing was "almost" shot, you might have finished it off. Does the noise go away when you push the clutch in when your sitting still? Also, if it's really quiet while cruising in 4th, you may have bad layshaft bearings.

          Change the lube and watch for metal in the oil!

          Good luck.....sounds expensive!

            I have the same problem....I just installed a 4.10 and its whining. If any of the bolts were loose between the driveshaft to diff or trailing arm to diff could cause this? The whining only happens when I am accelerating or letting off the gas...If I keep the car exactly at the same RPM's it doesnt whine. BTW, its just a faint whine.

              Thats because there is no directional pressure on the gear. The "whine" is the vibration that results from one gear spinning the other.

                it doesnt wine in any gears (not rollin)unless the car its movin its not u cant here it but u can fell the lever vibrating.

                1,2nd,4, are still good no vibartion. ill change the tranny oil tommorow.
                Funny thin its the vibration its less today.
