    2.5i head/super eta block + megasquirt project

This is still in the planning processs..
But I figured out tonight that I have an 88 2.7 block and 89 2.5 head just laying around collecting dust.
I'd like to pull off swapping it into my E21.

My brother bought a megaquirt setup for his E12.. then bought an S38 to put in it and opted not to use the megasquirt so he said I could test it out and pay him for it later :-)

The hardest part would be the wiring and electrical stuff (throwing out the K-jet and setting up the megasquirt).

What do you guys think? What kind of HP do you think I could get out of this setup when properly tuned?

oh also, what are the compression ratios of an 88 2.7, 2.7 and 2.5?

    Thanks

    a super eta bottom end + i head will net ~ 8.6:1 C/R I believe. I know its lower then the stock m20b25 (8.8:1)

Ah thanks. That's exactly what I was looking for. 2 tenths is not a big deal.

Isn't your E21 a 323i? Those are pretty rare in the states, I would want to keep it as is, unless it's not running well or something, of course.

Yeah, that's what my dad keeps saying. It's a 323 and the m20b23 only has 80k+ on it.
My dad's favorite phrase is that "when it ain't broke, ya don't fix it!"
BUT....... I'm not sure how much longer I can deal with the mechanical fuel injection.
The stupid car NEVER starts in the cold and the fuel mixture is never right.

Part of me wants to keep it original because of it's rarety.... but the other part of me just wants to have fun with it. :D

My good friend brandon whitehead has a 79 323i with a m20b27 stroker (super eta bottom end, i top end) same as your plan more or less.

His car is a handful to drive. e21's are tail happy as is, the 323i is even more so... and Brandons is excessively so.

He may have more power then me, but he can't use it through corners like I can. As I result he can't keep up.

I really don't think ~200hp in a e21 is practical for a daily driver, much less one that is self proclaimed not a good driver.

I'm going to go through driving schools to take care of the driving issue.

The e21 will never be my daily, <shrug> and I haven't found my car to be tail-happy.

I don't know what version of MS you have but if it's an older one you'll have to piggyback it with your ECM so that your ECM will still control your timing; either that or you'll have to put together your own timing setup/controlller. Go through a Bentley and document the wire connections/colors to the ECM so that you'll know which one's you'll need to use. As far as controlling the fuel injection the MS and Bosch are both "batch" style controllers so you shouldn't have that big a problem going from one to the other. Google MegaSquirt and you'll find a lot of info on some discussion boards on Yahoo.

                  :?:
My timing is controled by a mechanical distributor.
