m20 into 318

is the tranny the same on the 325i and 318is. was planning on swapping an m20 in a 318 but wasnt sure if the tranny wold mate up correctly

325i has a Getrag 260 tranny, the '84, '85 has a Getrag 240 tranny im not sure what the 318is has i think its a getrag 240/5......why would you put a sohc piece of junk M20 in a 318is....in my opinion the M42 is far better than an M20 the m42 has dhc, hydralic lifters, coil packs, chain driven cams, and its lighter.....trust me man you would be disappointed to put a M20 in your 318is. if your gonna do a swap think M50. just my two cents.

.........oh i forgot to add that ya i think the 318is tranny will fit the M20 engine but the gearing will be off since the M20 has a larger engine.
