    Engine Rattle

    1989 325iX.
    104,000 miles on the odometer.

My problem is: when I do not have my foot on the clutch pushing it in and the shifter is in neutral, I hear a rattle coming from my engine. It hasn't really gotten worse since i've noticed it and I drive the car everyday. I hear this could be referred to as Getrag Rattle. Should I be worried about this? What else could cause this rattle to go away when I press in the clutch? Just need some help diagnosing this.

    Thanks r3v

That is probably noise from the transmission input shaft. Once theres some wear on the input shaft bearings it can make that noise. Running a lightweight flywheel will make the problem worse. It isn't anything to be concerned about unless really loud and a change in transmission fluid to Redline MTL may reduce the level of the noise.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Thanks. I was definitely thinking about switching to redline asap.
