    Weird Shifter Angle

So, in the continuing saga of my car's weird issues.. we come to the weird shifter angle.

My shift knob, in neutral, sits towards the rear left. When driving, fifth gear is just about dead center.

Now, I thought it was transmission lean or something, but I passed by the mechanic today to take a looksie at progress and i noticed he had the shift boot out, and when looking at the shift, it looks like it may actually be the shifter thats bad. Thing is, i'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to lookr or not.

Can anyone get me a picture of their shifter with the shift boot removed? I want to take a look at the shifter and it's curvature angle.

    Thanks :)

shifter is supposed to be slightly angled...

but there's a number of reasons to your problem...

-rubber filling in shifter deteriorated redering the weird shifter angle
-shifter selector lever bent or cracked
-tranny mounts severed moving the tranny off center

... check all those things, and if anything... you could always install the Z3 short shift...

This also happens when the rod is installed backwards.

How are the engine and transmission mounts? Perhaps the drivetrain has shifted.

Mounts are good apparently. Wrong transmission brace but I finally got my ass out and measured the amount of error and the lean from this is not enough to cause my shifter to be so out of whack.

It's looking like the selector lever is bent AND cracked and welded back.. So, SSK is looking REAL viable right about now. :)

              Thanks all.
