    loose strut?

I failed an inspection because the guy said my front end was loose.... nothing else specific, so i jacked up my driver side and when i grab the tire at a 3 and 9 position there is a little bit of play when i wiggle the tire from those two points. I shone a flash light on my tie rod ends and the control arm and dont really see any movement there, is it something to do with the strut itself? and if so does the whole strut need to be replaced or is there a cheaper fix? thanks

I think it sounds like a Hub bearingfrom where you say you checked play. What about free play with hands on the 12 and 6 positions?

no free play in the 12 6 position, and you can see the spring/strut kind of twisting back and forth when i push on the 3 9 position, something in the upper area of the strut?

Sounds like strut mount or broken gland nut.

whats the gland nut? i took the little cap off the top so you can see the ball bearings and what not, and that nut seemed pretty fine, i put a 19mm socket on it and it doesnt spin when i torqued it a little bit, it sprang back to its original position, so im assuming its the mount? thanks

Why would you change something without being sure, go outside, take the wheel off and fully diagnose your issue.

Eh. Play at 3 & 9 is tie rod and 6 & 12 is wheel bearing. Get it right Farbin. :)

I recently changed my tie rods about 20K ago, and all signs point to the mount.

play at the 6 and 12 position is more indicative of balljoint wear imo.
