Weird Electrical problem ( aux fuses)

After wiring my cd deck into my aux fuse box (due to not being able to find a constant 12 volts). Now when i turn my headlights on it kills my cd deck and it loses any memory stored. Any ideas as to why??

edit# If i turn my headlights off the cd deck then powers back on. Its almost like a toggle switch going on.

    Thanks for any help

You need to do it the right way. It has been done thousands o times on these cars. Theres no need to run a wire to the fuse box. Disconnect that wire immediately. The last thing you need is a constant charge sent to something and have a short. Work on finding the correct way to wire it and start from there. If need be, find another guy that can help you out that has a volt tester or a power probe.

But I thought the yellow wire ( memory) required a constant 12v connection so it can retain memory? Im no stereo expect by any means but upon reading that is why i decided to run a new wire. I was using my little 12v tester light and found zero wires that had a power source.

It sounds to me like you might not have a valid ground for the deck and what you chose is being back biased by the head lights.

What you have done is called "Daylight Radio".

You have connected the dash light wire (grey/red) to the deck ground...you should have used brown. The grey/red tests as ground until you turn on the dash lights, then goes to 12V.

And yeah, find the correct wires or pay a pro. This is harder than a Honda, but it isn't difficult.

Oh yeah, we will make fun of you for the daylight radio thing. Just expect it, you will be fine.

Oh wow ok. That would make more sense cause when i tested for ground; the one I connected to seemed like a ground. But obviously i did have my lights off.

Thanks luke. I will probably have to run my own ground somewhere.

It is dangerous to test wires to find power and ground when adding aftermarket electronics. The circuits you need are already present and it is just a matter of identifying them. The wiring diagrams at http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm will solve that part of the problem.
