Could be starter solenoid? Or battery. Or some other flywheel engagement problem. Try to start normally with the hood open to know if the car is turning over when the starter cranks.

Try jumping the car to rule out low battery power.

Now, I know this is a bit ghetto, but hit that bitch with a hammer, it should start enough to get you to a place with a replacement starter.

I second the hammer idea. Give it a good whack and see if it wants to start then. If i does then you have a solenoid problem. If nothing happens still then it may be a powering issue at the key switch or starter relay.

Have a look and check back so we know everything is ok

tap gently on the starter dont beat the mf'er up tho just gently while turning the motor over. if it starts then your starter is f'ed
either way its not too hard to replace

If it was a re-manufactured starter, there is a chance that it went bad again, take it off and spin the motor by hand looking at the flywheel to make sure all your teeth are there. If its spinning the celenoid is doing its job.

If it is spinning freely, the strater motor is working. The solenoid pushes the starter gear to the flywheel, where it rotates the crank, starting the car. If the solenoid is good, there would be teeth missing on the flywheel.

I dont think the starter would spin at all if the solenoid was bad would it?

*No, it wouldn't*. That's why the hammer trick works, it's supposed to tap the shaft out, so it engages the flywheel. If the *bendix drive* doesn't work, the starter just free-wheels when the key is turned.

The starter would be stuck, The main purpose of the solenoid is a switch to turn the key power into the batter power.

Actually, you are right. The bendix drive would extend when the starter spins. The solenoid does exactly what you said. A broken bendix drive, could cause similar symtoms as missing teeth on the drive gear or flywheel.

                              OK that makes sense.
