Driver's Door Won't Lock

I've done some searching and haven't found anything like this. I even checked realoem and couldn't figure it out from the diagram.

My driver's door lock knob won't move up or down. I did find out in my research that if the door is open it won't lock, so I'm guessing the mechanism to let it know the door is open is messed up. When I bought it the door handle on the outside wouldn't open it so I got in and bent the piece that the handle strikes back into place.

If some one could help me find what let's it know the door is open it would be much appreciated. I would assume it would be in the latch, but the door is shutting all the way. Thanks in advance.

Probably a broken lock mechanism inside the door (not the lock cylinder) that catches on the latch striker part. You'll need to inspect it further.
