Heater core; move steering column & pedal box?

I have this style heater core

and I can't get that shit out, it hits a piece of the framing for the pedal box, and the steering column

is my only way to get it out to move all that shit, or is there a trick?

IMO removing dashboard and heater assembly is better idea than removing column and pedal assembly.

But that matrix doesnät came off easily, unlike the other one with hoses on both ends.

OP - someone was doing just that on bfc e30 section....he ended up cutting the heater box itself with a blade to get the core out w/o removing the box or the steering column. Otherwise you have to do one or the other.

Would you mind posting the link? What about cutting the old one to get it out, then converting to the new style since it can be installed without removing the dash? What would be involved, besides getting the core and valve?
