intermittent speedo

My speedometer stops working periodically but if I give it a light thump on the dash above it, it starts to work again. Have to do this several times a day.

Haven't had a chance to see if the odometer is also acting up either.

any ideas? Also, my clock is flickering all sorts of crazy looking LED artifacts; give it a harder thump, and it at least shows the clock, but still flickers a bit in the corner. Would this be related?

My speedo is off more than on but will sometimes flicker on for a bit. I found it easier to buy a gps that tells me how fast im going.
