Click but no start- All Set THANKS

    Guys, I need your help.

I was spraying some throtle body cleaner in the t/b (engine running) some of it found its way into the idle regulatiog valve suply hose (Don't ask how) The engine proptly stoped running. no strange sounds it just stopped!

Now all I get is a click when I try to turn it over.

I've pulled and cleaned the idle regulatiog valve and the starter valve, dryed them carefully with a heat gun to remove any remaining moisture, cleaned contacts for both and reinstalled. NO GO !@*!* All I get is one click.

have I cooked the idle regulating valve or what? Any thoughts or sugestions would be great!! Thanks in advance

I'm giving myself the bonehead award so please spare me the- what were you think'in remarks. Cheers, E9

Doesnt sound like a problem with the idle control valve, sounds like a low battery problem.
Try jumping it, it should start.

          Hey DaN,
Thanks for the responce. It has power, all the dash lights come on when i turn the key to the 2 or 3 position. It just wont turn over. Your right, the Idle control valve is working. Could I have damaged the starter valve? if so, could that keep it from starting?

see if you get voltage to the little wire going to the starter, when you try to crank.
Also check for voltage at the big wire.
If you have jumper cables around, try them too.

So the motor does not crank at all?

Like Dan said, check for continuous and switched power at the starter. If the motor will not crank at all, even when jumping it, ts either wiring to the starter, the starter itself, or the wiring from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid.

if the battery is good and all it does is click when you try to start it hit the starter solenoid with a hammer or somthing while trying to start it if it starts you need a new starter.

Make sure you have a good ground for the engine.

Thanks for all the tips Guys.

I'm planning on get'in this figured out later today (Fri. ) and willl report back with the results. I hope it's a simple and cheep fix- Yes, I live in a dream world. Wish me luck!!

Brew, Starter will Not crank or move one bit. I can hear the fuel pump working and all my dach lights come on strong so I don't think it's a battery problem. I'm not saying it's not- just wondering what the options could be. On the ground- are you talking about the wire going from the back L/ valve cover nut and bolts to the frame under the OX connection?

bmwe3, The starter has never given me any problems or expressed any simptoms to date. It's always started by the third crank or so including the day in question. When the engine stalled, could it have effected the starter in some negitive way?

Lot's 'O' head scratching going on in my mind. Thanks Agine For the Help!!

did you ever start the car when the engine temp was warm or hot, thats how you can tell a starter is going if it dosn't want to start when the engine is warm it wont start when it's cold so maybe you missed all the hot starts and died on this one cold on

try the hammer trick it's usually works 9-10 times unless the starters completley toast..

Problem solved- The connections to the starter are a bit touchy. I guess it had nothing to do with running the throttle body cleaner just odd timing. Thanks Guys for the help.
