    Urethane Motor mounts???

there is now a chunk missing.

I'm going to guess I should replace the motor mounts now, but the question is must I? What do you say, as far as safety/function wise? Unless someone wants to say it'd be okay for now.

And how do you do it? The subframe seems to be under the motormounts, so how can I lift the engine up while replacing the mounts under it.

Are there urethane mounts, or just stock ones available?

there are urethane available... naturally stiffer.. you can unbolt the mounts then lift the engine and prop it up.

Hmmm, I'm debating whether I really want or need them. And want to order if I do ASAP as I'm working on my car right now. (Probably check with Treehouse in the morning.....closer to me and know them better)

But if I am doing urethane engine mounts......should I replace the tranny mounts with urethane now instead of new stock ones as well??

I keep doing that to my drivers side motor mount. I'm quite sick of replacing it (broke 3 now in 9000 miles).

        I'm going urethane soon.

Your is broken because the heatshield is missing. Without it the mount gets baked by the exhuast.

After doing some searching, I read up on both. Well I decided someone had given me the tranny mounts and I have them right now, so I might as well use them, and not worry about it. (And the mounts should be easy enough to replace later if I want to go "FUH RAZE", as the majority of the cabin noise and vibration seems to be with the urethane tranny mounts.

I need to do the engine ones now too, but would like to upgrade to keep up with my urethane rear end parts.......so I shall upgrade the engine ones now, and wait until later to do the tranny ones if I feel like it. So either IE urethane engine mounts, or E12 ones, or something from Treehouse.

Hmmm.....I'm about to finalize my thinking to go with IE's urethane and put in the order.

edit: Good eyes, but nah, it was on there before.....I removed it to try to drop my exhaust completely with manifold attached. To no luck.....but then I realized I didn't need to remove it, and the driveshaft was clear anyway now.

          Heatshield intact.

edit #2. fuck urethane tranny mounts for now. I have the stock replacements for free. no sense not to use them. and I ordered urethane motor mounts from IE. If I decide I want urethane tranny mounts later, it would cost the same as if I got them now......and the install is pretty easy

For all who are thinking about the urethane engine mounts...
I put them in my car because my turbo project trashed the rubber mounts. I had heard that they could do damage to the metal mount brackets if not reinforced. I have had them in for 5 months and there are no signs of damage. The car has seen some track days since they have been on as well.
they are very easy to put in and I haven't seen asny signs of wear since then. you MUST remember to reuse the heat shields. if you don't, you just wasted money.

J, You should be doing the passenger side one. The reason is, the motor torques to the right pulling up on the driver side mount because the stock passenger side one is soft. I would worry you would have the same problem if you only changed the driver side mount.

I'm very happy with my urethane mounts. They've been in the car for over two years now and I've had no problems. The motor mounts don't really add any extra noise in the cabin, but the tranny mounts will definitely add noise in the cockpit. They are well worth the money for me. I was going through a set every year until urethane.
