A great way to start the new year...

Ok so was driving to work this morning and I just got to the stoplight about a block away from my house and the wierdest thing happens, i shift into second and my whole shifter rod where it connects to the ball breaks off  OK SO I have a 1991 318is 5spd
what kind of short shift kit is good? I was thinking the ireland engineering one but im not sure if it will work on my car because it says that it works on the 325 and M3, do you guys know if i can use it still? If not what do you guys recommend? I only have around $200 to spend and I can put it in myself.

Jesus, go easy on the shifter. This aint some turbo deisel truck with an allison, you shouldn't need to shift that hard to even come close to breaking it.

How do you know he was shifting hard? Maybe the parts were just very worn?

From what it sounds like, he broke the shifter in half, above the ball that goes into the little socket. Usually the lower linkage would break before that, correct?

well i am the third owner of the car, when i did a carfax report on it the first owner kept up the maintenance, the second owner was not as good but when i got the car at the dealership they said everything was fixed and in order. the second owner must have really been hard on the car.
