spring loaded cylinder of doom question

ive removed it from the car and am replacing the o-rings on either side and encountered a problem.

the original rings differ slightly from the rings that i have. On the original, if you take a cross section out of it, it would be a square. On the new o-rings , if you to a cross section of it, it would be a circle....do you see what im saying?

im just trying to make sure im using the correct o-rings!

The old rings were circular.... they got compressed for 15 years into a square shaped hole.

    You figure the rest out.

I don't mean to thread jack, but where does the second O-ring go on the tube? somebody just had blue gasket sealant on the top of mine when i took it off and nothing was on the bottom..

one goes beneath the spring on the bottom, and the other goes on top of the lip that protrudes from the sides of the tube where it pops inside the intake manifold.

Its not as needed as the bottom one as oil wont leak...i think it may cause a small vacuum leak though?
