Check to make sure the nut on the back is tight. 7mm IIRC that sometimes helps.

On mine it was tight and since I had a spare gauge lying around I just changed the gauge and it worked fine

Mine used to flop all aroud randomly and go all the way to red but if you tighten the nut on the back of the cluster it should stop false signals and such.

ok the emp guage moves a little when its powered up. when i shut off the car it rises a little and then shuts off normally. It never even enters the blue while driving. possibly the sender?

                TIA

Do you have a Bently book? I was reading up on the test for this problem earlier and it sounds like you can test to see if the problem is the sender or the gauge by running a jumper to ground from one of the leads on the sender. Want details?

yeah just take the connector for it off and get a screw driver and tap it to ground

i was messing with it today. i took the connector off the sender and tapped it to ground. nothing happened. drove the car a few minutes later and the guage rose. soon after it got to temp the service indicator lights started flickering and the guage was bouncing all around. it did this a few times. any suggestions?
