My 323i has a problem, no matter the temperature of the engine it has a hard time above 5500, it starts to sputter and will eventually hit red line. With no load on the engine it hits it no problem. That makes me think fuel delivery problem.
BUT, and this could be 100% unrelated, no matter the temperature of the car, when you start it the idle is perfect. Every time I give it gas it settles back at a slightly higher RPM. Each time it seems to go up about 100 RPM, then stops at around 1200. I'm sure it's not the tach sticking or something because it's obviously running faster.
Thought I should add that I don't intend to hit red line at all when I drive, I know when to shift etc. I just know it should be able to without problems and it makes me think I could be down on power everywhere.
More potentially useful information.
Compression is great, replaced all vacuum lines and intake boot, new plugs cap and rotor, and just adjusted the valves after letting it sit overnight.
