    Gauge cluster reinstall

Taking shit apart is never my problem. It is always breaking things along the way and putting it back.

boring preamble: I bought a used 325 cluster under the impression the odometer worked. $50. No idea if that is a good price for a cluster. Especially when the odometer DOESNT work. It is in better condition at least.

So the mounting tabs were broken off of this odometer and the odometer that was previously in my car. While everything fit fine... I am having a bitch of time putting all of the pieces back in. What is a good way to line the cluster back in its place without those tabs or any guides? I broke something while trying to push it back in place.

are you talking about the tabs at the top of the cluster that screw into the dash? if those are gone you are never going to be able to mount it right. if i were you i would swap the front peice to one that isnt broken.

I have no clue exactly what part he is talking about. But when working with clusters, if you are using more force than what you pinky can deliver - you are doing something wrong.

Exactly. I just pulled my cluster out (for the 100th time) this time to swap the fuel gauge face to metric kind... can probably do it with my eyes closed lol.

Pics? Did euro models come with actual numbers instead of just E/.5/F? Sounds useful.

its hard to get it back in, but i t can be done. just keep working it around in various angles. you can take the stearing wheel off and that should make things easier.

I did the same thing on my eta cluster after having it in and out 30 times for gauge and SI board swaps. Also, since the odo is broken, I had to pull the cluster every time I failed emissions to advance the mileage so they wouldn't turn me away outright.

In any case, it's kind of a snug fit in there anyway, so just kinda do your best as far as estimating the position, and bolt on the trim piece that goes to the bottom of the cluster and the under dash (?) and it will hold fine.
