    Driveshaft issues/questions...

I have an issue on my E30... center support bearing was installed roughly 5k miles ago in order to fix a vibration issue, and is now torn completely. The consensus of some knowledgeable BMW owners is the ujoints are probably bad, causing this. So I'm basically wondering if the ujoints are replaceable or if I need a whole new diff? If so, exactly what diffs will fit my 87 325e (March build date) and if anyone has one PM me please.

    Thanks.

A failure of the rubber mount of the CSB is almost always due to binding u-joints in the drive shaft. Unless both the CSB and drive shaft are replaced at the same time a replacement CSB will have a short life. Which is what has happened here. You need to replace the CSB and drive shaft, the differential is probably fine. Your choices are either to get a new or a reman drive shaft as the u-joints aren't replaceable in the field.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Gotcha. I keep hearing that the u joints are and aren't replaceable...

The u-joints in the drive shaft definitely aren't field replaceable. They will be staked or welded in, so machining is required. And after the u-joints are replaced the drive shaft has to be spin balanced. That is not something that you can do in your garage. I've had great success with the rebuilt drive shafts from DriveLine Services (http://www.driveshafts.com/).

Was the guibo replaced when the CSB was? A bad guibo will trash a CSB like a bitch.

What other driveshaft, if any, will fit my 87 325e? It's hard to find an 87 325e with lower miles.

Any early model e driveshaft should work.

325e? What about 5 series? Is auto and manual the same?
