who has replaced a hood latch cable?

ive never done one of these. i sold a new cable to a member and when he got it it was damaged. never doing one of these i cant say if the piece damaged is a protective piece or if its part of the mechanism. the pic shown is the end that attaches up front opposite the handle. is that white busted piece supposed to be removed or is that part of the assembly?? thank you

Part of the assembly and shouldn't affect operation. Got an extra from the yard once with that same break and it's been ok for ~2yrs now.

I did the latch, handle and cable since the PO... lost? them - it wasnt too bad, less than an hour start to finish.
