    E30 straight pipes question

I have an 86 Eta that the exhaust is about shot, and I am currently planning a s50 swap within the next 6-8 months, so I dont want to go and put a bunch of money in a new set of pipes. Has any one on here ever run straight pipes or ones with just a cheap glasspack? Also, since I am going the mega cheap route I was thinking side exit, just in front of the rear tire, anyone ever dont this? pics maybe? dont flame me please, this will be done as a simple novelty and toy  Also since I dont have to worry about any state emission laws  gotta love south carolina, I am open to any other ideas Thanks - Graham

P.s. Check out my thread on my e36 if you know anything about them :D

I had straight pipes on my e30 for a couple weeks while I was driving it to work out bugs prior to sending to the paint shop.

It was ungodly loud, easily 3-4x louder then my LOUD AS HELL Brullen. The lack of backpressure really held the engine back as well. I noticed a decent improvement once I got the Brullen welded up.

well, I guess I will have to find a cheap muffler and go that route. I was really hoping to have a kick ass flame throwing side exit exhaust too anyone have any part number for a cheap autozone or somthing muffler? Thanks- Graham

goto a scrap yard and find a stainless steel muffler and cut it off, and get a shop to weld it on for u

cheapest way if u dont plan on keeping it long

You can get a Dynomax Turbo Muffler for a little over $35 or a nice Magnaflow for $70. If that isn't cheap enough I don't know what is.

If you're interested I do have a 3" Center In/Out Magnaflow for $50, not used.

nice deal, but with shipping it would probably be the same price, does anyone have a pic of a car with side exit exhaust? is it even possible?- graham

It is possible and I have seen it on an E30 M3. However, you will end up loosing quite a bit of ground clearance making it very impractical for a daily driven car.

ground clearance isnt an issue, I have a 4x4, but I think that dynomax sounds like a good deal, also, does any one know what configuration to get, center/center, center/ offset? thanks again

I live in south carolina, as long as I pay my car tax, and insurance, they dont give a damn. I have had speeding tickets in my jeep(bet you didnt think that was possible) and it has 5% tint, and no problems, I also had a 88 F250, on 44" ground hawgs, dual strait pipes, the works, and never a problem. I have thought you could probably import a nonroad legal supercar and tow it to a local dmv, and say it is a kitcar and be set, now only if I had enough money.....

also, as of right now, my exhaust exits via my shifter cut out, since I am missing my shift boot, so it cant get any worse than that.

uhhhhh... you do realise exhaust fumes potentially make you impotent don't you?

                          that's not cool

yeah, it isnt a daily driver, right now it is making my driveway look badass, while awaiting an alternator, and new exhaust. I new the exhaust was leaking, but always drive with my windows down anyways, so i wasnt too worried, but then the other day, I took it to get the alternator checked, and the lower cover on my cat came off and dragged, because i could get under it to pull it off, it was like the walk of shame.......only louder, and probably with some sparks
