    Sluggish above 3000 rpm

the car runs fine below 3k, punch it and as it reaches and passes 3k it hesitates and continues... then hesitates again and keeps doing it...

    any ideas?

A buddy of mine had a problem similar to this with his '86 300z (we're always giving him crap about being a ricer) where it would run fine up to 2500 rpm and then crap out like it was flooded. For the longest time he thought it was the throttle position sensor so that the EFI thought the throttle was at idle when it was actually wooded. I think it might have ended up being something really dumb though like a poorly connected MAF. I don't know much of anything about the EFI on the e30's but you might want to do a quick check of all your connections to make sure the EFI parts are at least talking to each-other.

I took a drive with my mechanic and he's telling me to try another AFM...

looks like that's where I have to start

i agree... sounds like a bum AFM... but for good measure you ought to bring some basic maintenance up to date like fuel filter, air filter, plugs, cap, rotor, wires...coolant flush, oil change... ect. ect.

Air filter and fuel filter is where I would start. My uncle's civic felt like it was running half power (imagine how slow that is). Replaced the fuel filter and bam, like a new car. Sometimes it's the cheap and easy shit that's the problem.

          Keep it slideways!!
