Passenger door lock problem?

Hey, last night I was trying to unlock my car from the passenger side to put my backpack into the car... But the lock wouldn't budge?!?! The key would go in to the lock, but it would only turn about a centimeter in either direction? I almost broke my key I was trying so hard, what could the problem be and how can I fix it?

P.S. The drivers side door is starting to give me trouble when locking the door also... :?

If the locks are stiff its cause its cold.
And my passenger side door lock does not work either, but only if i use the driver door to lock. The driver door when locked engages a deadbolt of some type so that only the driver door can be used to unlock the car. I think this is done by how far you turn the key when locking but im not sure cause my cars driver lock has always been broken so that when you lock the door it engages the deadbolt. Lock the car with the passenger door, if you can unlock it with the passenger door then you have my problem. Driver's lock=Drivers unlock, passenger or trunk=any.
