    replacing ECU

How do I know if my ECU is defective?

Can anyone walk me through replacing it? I'm not sure where it is on my 1987 325e.

    Thanks

Not sure about how to tell if it's defective....
But it's located in the glove box. Remove the upper cover on the inside of the glove box and there's the Motronic box.
If you want to replace the chip:
Take it out of the car, and remove one side of the case (not sure which one right now.) There's a black grommet that holds the circuit board down. Removing it will allow the board to swing out. The chip you are looking for is a 24 pin that is plugged in (as opposed to soldered in). Hope that helps a bit.

Do not buy those fake chips off of ebay. If you want a chip, get a real one from somewhere like www.turnermotorsport.com
            BimmerHeads
            Classic BMW Specialists
            Grover Beach, CA
