    Electrical/wiring "re-do"

I'm getting ready to pull the head on this 84 318 I bought. The car is in VERY good shape (40K miles), but most of the electrical wiring loom is cracking/breaking off.....not unheard of for a 25 year old car.

This is all in the engine bay.

Would you guys have a suggestion other than split-loom for recovering the wiring? Not sure if others have done this, but any help is appreciated. The wiring itself appears to be in good shape/still flexible.

I've been doing a lot of harness building reading recently. From what I've tracked down, the OEM for the cloth tape used in BMW wiring harnesses is a company called Tesa.

I bet there are a bunch of stuff that would work. Hot rod guys go through this all the time - so when google, you might look toward the hot-rod dudes.

And in your phone book there should be at least one company that does car re-wiring. That would be another resource.

Sumit and Jegs should have something that would work.

      Maybe something like this?

I'm not to the point where I want to try and disassemble each plug to slide on a sleeved cover.....

i went / am going through the same thing...i had to track down several shorts and in the process the old cracked harness had to go....i ended spliting 1" dia shrink wrap and zip tieing where necessary . if any one has or can come up with a way to get the shrink wrap around the conectors with cutting the wires i would love to see it. i hated to cut the stock coverings but my fuel injectors were shorting out....

save yourself a major headache and just replace your engine harness.

nobody wants the M10 so a wiring harness should be easy to find
