my cv joint is destroyed so i am changing it out and for the love of god i cannot get the axle out. I have a steering wheel puller that i tried but it will not lock in. Ive tried beating the shit out of it and i cannot get it out anyway. Anyone know a better way to get the damn axle out, this is driving me crazy.

Yes im replacing the whole half shaft. I have a mini sledge hammer and ive broken a screw driver already, Ive used misc. objects and i been beating the shit out of it for about an hour now and it will not budge. The one im talkin about now is off of my parts car, the one on my car came out with 2 wacks.Comment

I've done 5 halfshafts in the last two weeks. If it doesn't come easily with a couple of whacks with the BFH, an air hammer is the only thing that will work.
I spent 2 1/2 hours beating the hell out of the first one. when I finally busted out the air hammer it came out like butter. The frequency of the hammer has a huge influence too.Comment

The trick that my son taught me was to take a ball-peen hammer put the round end in the end of the recess in the axle. PUT ON SOME SAFETY GLASSES, get your BFH and give it a good shot. Works every time for us. Let us know how it goes.

Maybe you are not qualified to do this job??? The point of using a ball-peen hammer is so that you can grab the handle not the part you are hitting. This makes it pretty difficult to hit your finger. This is the way a bunch of techs do it where I work and we never have any issues.

I had that problem when I first got my car. Both sides needed axles. One side pushed out with any troubles what so ever and was done in an hour and a half. The other side took 3 days of beating the piss out of it with everything I could get my hands on minus an impact hammer. It ended up requiring 2 other friends to help wedge the trailing arm while I used a 3 arm gear pusher? that I rented with a long ass extension to push the axle out.
Anyway, a few of the splines ended up being flat inside the hub and I had to change it. It was a major PITA.
Soak it in PB Blaster and hope that it decides to come out.Comment
