The common causes of no spark when cranking the engine are no power to the DME (bad main relay or blown fusible link) or a lack of timing reference data to the DME (bad CPS).
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

crank position sensor... it tells the computer how fast the engine is turning and what cylinder is where. the computer needs that info to know when to turn "on" the coil (really it just opens the ground)
