ECU Performance Chip (Precautions before replacing)

I've ordered a Performance ECU chip and I should have it in a few days.

I've taken the glove box off and am ready to take the ECU off as soon as the chip gets here.

Other than disconnecting the Battery before doing anything, what other precautions should I take.

How difficult is this job? Is it highly likely that I'll damage something in there?

If anyone has done this, I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

    Thanks in advance.

Don't wear anything that can create static like a fleece jacket. Touch a metal part of the Car body before cracking open and removing the chip.

WHILE cracking open and removing the chip? Or right before opening and removing the chip?

I'd say for both steps. You don't want to have static discharge to the ecu during anytime, but for sure during the removal of the chip it self.

Do I have to take the entire ECU box out and do it or can it be done while still attached under dashport?

i dunno if u would have to take it out... but there is no reason not to. it takes like 1 minute

only thing i can say, is be careful when u pull out the old chip, and putting in the new one... the prongs r extremley fragile. when pulling it out, but a flat head screw driver under each side and pull up evenly, and when putting the new chip in, u might want to just bend each bank in a tinnny bit, just to make it line up easier... only advise i can give.. also when ur opening the ecu, dont worry if u break the little metal tabs off... doesnt mean much...

Just touch a large metal object every once in a while....(ie the car) Do it sitting in the passanger seat, and every time you squirm around in the seat touch the metal of the door frame if you are really worried about it....

Or pick up a $5 anti-static wrist band from rat-shack if you are REALLY paraniod. I've never "zapped" anything in my life from static.

I've never followed any of those precautions, and I've swapped chips literally about 12 times in the past year. Don't worry at all.
