    Windshield Wiper Problem

Okay, I did a search but nothing exactly like my issue found. Today I started my car and I guess I bumped the wiper stalk, and they came on with the washer fluid spraying onto the shield. So I try to turn them off, nothing doing. They keep going til the pot is almost empty, and I unplugged the wires to the pump. The wipers, however, keep going. So this goes for the rest of the day, only once or twice they would stop, but if I turned them back on (it was raining today), they kept going regardless of the stalk position.

Anybody had this problem, and fix? I don't want to start ordering parts til I have a good idea as to the problem.

    Thanks, Bobby

On a technical note, anyone know how to replace the stalk/switch? I've no idea how to remove. Write-up anywhere?

        Too wierd.

Same thing happened to mine today.. emptied the washer tank, wipers kept going, wouldn't shut off. However, they did finally stop on their own.

Had to turn them on later after the soccer game, and same thing happended again. They ran until they decided to shut off.

I've got to get my Bently back (loaned to a friend w/'new' '87 325is). Is this something that is just intermittent and we need to live with? My '88 didn't experience this.

My other e30 never had this either, and it had 203K miles when I sold it. I don't think we have to live with this, so if you come up with a fix, let me know.

BTW, I went out a bit ago, and turned the key to acc., and the wipers did not come on. This is key, because they were still running when I turned the car off. Maybe it won't act up anymore, but I ain't counting on it. So keep me posted.

          Thanks.

Bobby, I hate to say this, but your car's condition is terminal. This sickness will only spread until it consumes every moving part on the chassis. This is not a pretty sight, and is often VERY hard for a dedicated owner to witness. You ought to consider finding a nice home to give it to, so that it may live out its remaining few, yet stressful days, in an environment prepared for this type of challenge.

Since you are such a dear, I would be more than happy to assist you in offering my home to your car. It will be well taken care of.

I am sorry to be the bearer of such awful news.

            Godspeed.

E30 Hospice? That's a novel idea, but I think I will take my chances. As my good friend "Big Jim Gentry" used to say, "No, but ah preciate ye askin'. "

              you ARE funny tho. :D

Sounds like a bad relay to me. Try swapping it out, but make sure that the new one has the same pin-outs and switching.

Thanks. It was okay earlier, but started up again this evening. We had a light mist, and I turned them on, but they wouldn't shut off and the washer pump was running too.
