Do you have extensive engine modifications? If not, leave it stock.

A K&N drop in panel filter is all you need.

Sorry to use you guys an example. Nothing personal, but holy shit. You cant just accept statements like that. Show us some tech that proves that the stock filter flows better. Not traps better, not has more surface area, but flows better.
I dont like the K&N filters for the record, but this stuff is why r3v is starting to suck as a tech site.

whatever is cheaper. The flow difference between a K&N would hardly be noticable, I bought a used KN just so I wouldnt have to keep buying filters.

Calm down a bit, man. I've heard from several other people that the Mann paper filters are the best flowing, and from the same amount of other people that the K&N is your best bet. If we're so tech-clueless, perhaps you'd be so gracious as to enlighten us? I'm sorry, but not all of us own race / tech shops, and we're not all physics professors. No one said I was taking what Ken said as law. I was simply adding it to what I've heard about both filters.

Your apology for using myself and Ken as examples is nice, but I wouldn't think it very prudent to insult the intellingence of individuals who were planning on buying your products. It's not like I'm out here spreading misinformation, there are other E30 sites for that. Until someone steps up tp the plate with side-by-side comparisons, tests, and concrete numbers, I'm going to go with what the majority of what I hear is a good product from people I respect the opinions of.

I can't find the site right now, but somebody did a large technical comparison between 5 or so filters.

Does anybody have a link to it?

the question is, what does it matter....i mean whats the maximum to be gained on an e30 from just an air filter?

Rob's got a point. My ranting was pointless, I'm tired, and I need to go to bed.

I am not insulting anyones intellegence. I would just like to see more "tech" on this site than someone making a statement, and it all the sudden becomes fact. I generally hold everyone on here in high regards, including you guys.
I dont have the information either, but I would be interested to know if someone can dig up the information. Basically, the point of my post was that (sorry to use you again Ken) is if Ken had the info, a link should have been posted, so we can all look at it and understand why it is like that, so we can all make informed decisions.

Also, I dont own a shop, nor have a physics degree :)

For example, below would be nice, instead of "I put in the K&N and wow! It's fuh raze!"

                          *******
I recently installed the K&N filter in my car, and I noticed a nice improvement over stock. Besides the "seat of my pants" dyno, here is a link showing the Restrictions. It looks like the K&N filter flows better, but lets bigger particles in the motor.

This is just an ongoing pet peeve I have been having. Not about the members persay, but just how all internet forums operate.. Hell, even life.

[edit] Just to make sure we are all clear: This is by no means a personal attack. I just needed to bitch about something. :) C++ sucks my nuts. [/edit]
