fuel problem?

was driving my car today, car shut off... coasted to nearest place. let it chill out, wouldnt stat up a bunch of times. finally it cranked. i thought i was low on fuel, drove to the gas station, died when i was pulling it in. coasted up to the gas pump. put some gas in. wont start, primed it seriously for like an hour, doesnt even smell like fuel. and has this bad poping noise coming out of the exhaust.

fuel filters clogged? definatly not getting fuel.
not the fuel pump. i hear it.

not a fuel problem. checked, its getting plenty of fuel. sounds like timings off. anybody hear of these things skipping teeth?

crank position sensor?, that would affect timing, i hear those go out on m20s on occasion.

yeah well.. just towed the car home. its the timing belt. it slipped. im starting it tommrow. gotta look for a how-to.

hope you caught it before it did anything serious! get the water pump and tensioner replaced while you're at it. It would be pointless not to.

yeah caught it just in time! everythings good. yeah im gonna replace everything necessary

Sorry about that, that is going to be a long haul through, thats why I like timing chains :D

sorry i wrote timing belt.. its a timing chain. its a 84 318i
