    o2 sensor for 325e

Real oem shows a different part number between the 325e and 325i. I know that the Mustang part is supposed to be a direct fit (except wiring of course). but for which application, I or E, or does it replace both equally. IIRC, the eta uses a narrow band sensor, but does the I use a wide band? I dont want to have to shell out 150 bucks for a sensor when a 40 dollar mustang part will work just fine.

Im replacing the sensor due to slowly decaying fuel mileage, and from the looks of the sensor, this thing was last touched in Munich when the damn thing was built. My last emissions test, and several prior ones showed CO being moderate, and NOX on the ragged edge of failing, so Im hoping that a new sensor may help with this, Otherwise its new cat time, come emissions sniff check again.

I've had less than stellar results when trying to use a universal O2 sensor. Consequently I now only use an exact fit part for that. The OE unit from a dealer is rather pricey. But the exact fit part that you can get from AutoZone, Advance, etc., is a bit cheaper and works just fine.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

The e is a three wire

Neither the e or the i has a wideband sensor. The difference is the e basicly senses the voltage differental from the core to the shield of the sensor, basicly ground, and two wires that are the heater circuit. the i has two wires for the heater circuit and two for the sensor circuit. The four wire mustang will work for the i with no problems.. but for the e you need a three wire sensor.. I'm not the best at explaining, so below is the links to the schematics that show the difference,

      and the i

Bosch 15735 is a three wire universal that worked good for me, they have them at amazon for about $55.00
      Good luck

I was able to source a mustang unit that was 3 wire. All is good with the car for the moment. Jury is still out as to whether the mileage is improving or not
