    AC compressor won't engage

Ok, I'm gonna throw one more out there:

    On my 1989 325i:

I did some major head work recently and the car's been running fine so far, except that the AC compressor won't engage when I turn on the switch on the center panel.

I've checked all the fuses and all the wires I can see, the wires are all tight and the fuses are all intact... Any ideas at all? Help!!

    Thanks!

I beleive there's a low pressure switch that if your r12 or r134 is low won't let the compressor engage.

also, if the direction levers are all the way to the left, I dont think it will engage.
So check the refrigrant level, and make sure its full.
Then see if it gets power to the clutch coil, if not, see if it gets the control voltage to the relay .If the relay has power, ground, etc...

Perfect!! The low pressure switch has to be the issue, I know my refrigerant leaked out.. :(

DanN, good to know also about the direction levers. Thanks guys! This was very helpful!
