anti-theft system is making my car immobilized.... help

    Hi,
I was referred here from the BMW forums.
My BMW 325i is the car I need help with.
I was sitting in the car waiting for someone to arrive, the car was off. My son began pushing the buttons on the anti-theft control display, the buttons say "1000,100,10,1" before we knew it he had put in a code and started the anti-theft system, UNFORTUNATELY he's a kid and didn't know what the (#*%)_ he was doing and doesn't know what numbers he pressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now the car won't start, it cranks, but the motor won't run. The front of the display shows "----CODE" and there is no known code as my son randomly pushed the number buttons on the anti-theft display.

This is NOT a radio problem, the radio works fine.

The nearest dealer is almost two hours away and to tow it there is something like $200, and then there is the dealers $$$$$ for fixing this.

Please, please someone tell me how to stop this anti-theft system from making my car useless. I haven't driven anywhere in over 4 days. I had to have my car towed home from where it was when this incident happened.

    Any ideas?????????

Remove one of the battery cables in the trunk.

Let the car sit for 15-20 minutes.

    Reconnect the battery.

    Start the car.

If that fails, remove the battery cable again and wait longer before replacing it.

The code system will forget it had a code.

      wow!

I can't believe it could be so easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To think that the dealer would have me spend $200 to tow it there and then hundreds to "fix it" is unbelievable!

      Have you tried this before?

At the other website someone said to cut the green wires under the steering wheel and splice them together and I figured I should check here before doing any cutting.

Depends, on the "is" model, it's in the trunk, perhaps the standard "i" models have it in the engine bay? This is assuming a US-spec car.

standard i cars, still have the battery in the trunk, i believe cabrio's and 318's have the battery up front.

                  IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!

                  It worked! OMG!
We found the battery in the trunk... unhooked the black wire lead and came back two hours later.
                  Hooked it back up....
... and the car started!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES! It started right up.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!

Now the anti-theft device is still blinking but instead of flashing "---CODE" it is flashing
                  "---HUR".

I don't know what that means. Does anyone?????????
Also, is there a way to set my own personal code in the anti-theft display????

                  :D :P

It's flashing "UHR" - IE: "Time" auf deutsch. You need to reset the clock and language now.

Too bad we all don't speak the language!

After I do that, do you know how to set a personal code for the anti-theft or should I just leave it blank? I don't even know how my son messed it up to begin with. I feel like putting a small piece of wood over it to cover it up completely.

                        ;)

Refer to your owners manual for instructions on setting a code and setting the OBC in general.

The code function is pretty useless really, as you now know it is easily bypassed.

Teach your son not to touch it and you will be fine ;)
