    Air Filters

I am looking for a cone air filter for my car .Right now it has a K&N filter the same size as the stock filter, but I would like to squeeze some more hp out of the engine. I was looking at two types of filters one being the K&N style cone filter with the oiled gauze, and the other being the HKS style filter with the foam, dome shaped filter. What are your opinions on both of these? What are the differences in noise, performance, and ease of cleaning? Thanks for the help.

My suggestion would be find a different way to try to squeeze more horsepower out of your car.

Chip and injectors would be better. There are plenty of threads here to effectively squeeze power out of your M42. 160 CHP is very possible.

The stock airbox is good. You won't gain by putting a cone filter on there. Chip and injectors are the way to go with an m42.

I discovered years ago on my 318 that removing the stock airbox and installing a cone filter actually lost me power. Reinstalling the box with a fresh Mahle filter gave me back a bit of torque.

              But hey, it sounded AWESOME.

This be true! But I keep mine as a "bad ass sound upgrade".
