    Driveshaft shortening in VA?

    Hi everyone

I thought about putting this in the 24v section, but since its more of a general e30 question, I thought I'd post it here.

I'm nearly done swapping my S50B32/euro 6-speed into my M3 and need to find a place to shorten/balance my front driveshaft half. I took it to a driveshaft shop in Winchester a few weeks ago, and as soon as I told them it was for a BMW, they immediately told me they couldn't do it :(. So, does anyone know of a shop in VA that can do this for me? Preferably in Northern/western VA, but I make it around the state semi regularly, so elsewhere would work too. If no one knows a good place in VA, can someone at least reccomend a good place to ship it to to have this done?

    Thanks!

No idea. But, I found a place in Marshall today that *might* be able to do it for me.

All I'm trying to do is shorten the front half, and leave the back alone...a guy I know of in the UK did this with success. If all I need done is the front half, I don't know why it would be so different than any other shaft?

Make an alignment mark before you separate the two driveshaft pieces. Then take the driveshaft apart and it's the same as cutting and balancing any other driveshaft no need for a two piece driveshaft balancer. Unless you forgot to make alignment marks on the two pieces before you took them apart.

Yeah, unfortunately I didn't do that. I honestly had no idea itd be so different/ be an ordeal. At this point though I think I'm still going to try my luck at doing just the front, and playing with the position some if need be.

I still haven't heard back from the shop in Marshall, so anyone else that knows a place LMK.

            Thanks!
