    Complete Tune-Up - What should I do? (318iS)

I recently got a '91 318iS. Car is 100% stock and runs pretty strong. However, sometimes it idles weird and just feels a bit tired. I think I need to do a full tune up.

Here is what parts I ordered so far:
    New pads and rotors
    Rear shock tower mounts
    Chain tensioner
    Oil filter

    Will order soon:
    NGK plugs

    What else should I do?

Do you know when the timing chain/guides were last changed? If not...maybe just do a visual inspection and replace if needed. Also look for sprocket/tooth wear

There's a "mess under the intake" thread on M42 club. That should solve your idle isse. The M42 is very sensitive to vacuum leaks.

Right now I am not too worried about the idling issue coz it happens once in 15 times.

What other things should I replace?

              Fuel filter.

Pull the valve cover off and post some pics of the cam gears. They're usually a good indicator of the condition of your timing components.

                Basics
plugs may be ok, clean them and set gap (but i run ngk and check often)+antisieze
                maybe even
                cap/rotor
                wires
                air filter
                fuel filter
                tran/ diff fluids
                brake fluids
                coolant (bmw blue only here)
                oil/ filter (no fram)
                rotate tires

                than
check for cracked hoses, intake rubber
clean up the AFM and throttle body (usually has resin if valve guides are worn)
maybe some injector cleaner before the oil change.
check throttle cable, and throttle body.
remove all excess weight. and happy trails

                    oyeah.
                    maybe
i have a 89 m20, so i have the cap/rotor, it might not have that. so, if thats the case.
                    check individual coils, etc.

yes, no cap and rotor on a 91 318
everything else that has been listed is good
Id service the icv valve , which can be causing your idle issue too
yes get rid of the crap under the intake manifold
run a tank or two of lucas injector cleaner, before changinf fuel filter
check your belts, keep a spare alternator belt
you listed rotors adn pads, order at least one new hub retaing screw, if not 2 ( cheap) and even maybe one brake pad sensor as these often break coming out ( unless you live near a bmw dealer shop who carries them) ther is a trick to shut the light off, if you break a sensor

I advise also that if you own a m42 and ordering parts, to order a new radiator bleed screw, cost a whole $2. worth haveing around, Ive seen newish ones break coming out , O rings drop off into the twilight zone never to be found, old ones that havent been bled in a while snap right off
even bought a m42 basket case that the p.o. had tried gluing on a broken bleed screw

dont forget to reset your servie light ( easy task) after oil change
