    Replacing the aux fan and engine fan with a 2300-2500cfm electric fan will be a larger weight reduction than using the aux fan for cooling since you can remove the fan and condensor. And that weight is coming off the very front of the car.
    The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

        Back from the long-dead...

        Gonna do this myself and I really don't feel like getting R32 all over the place, let alone my hands, rendering myself handless, etc. etc...

        lol it up, just don't really feel like getting majorly injured by being stupid.

        Where do I need to worry about R32 coming into play???

            Haha oops, yes I mean R12...actually I meant to fix that but then I got distracted by shiny objects.

                    It's pretty straight foward, and I assume you want to keep the heater / internal fan. I removed the whole thing once and it was terrible driving to/from autox events when it rained w/o having any heat OR fan to keep the front windshield clean... so..

                    I would remove the a/c compressor, it's lines, and condensor. Get these factory a/c brackets and you can mount the a/c fan infront the radiator and wire it to run as you like (half speed, full speed, or wire in a switch) http://www.briangt.com/gallery/album50

                    You can replace the two lines going through the passenger side firewall, into behind the glove box into the heatercore/blower box/ connecting to the evaporator, but these really don't weight much AND you'll have to deal with the hole on the passenger side. I was not able to find a factory plug to plug that hole up, and YOU WILL get dirt and shit through it ...

                      That's not a joke. R12 sells for ~$50 per pound, and will only get more expensive, as it is no longer legal to manufacture it in the US. Mexico still produces limited quantities, but save that shit for degreasing circuit boards, if you can find it. Shops will usually give you a recharge credit for the same amount as they recover. Considering the system holds around 1.5 lbs...

                      If you ask nice, they may even just pay you and be done.

                      Don't confuse R12 and R134a, though. R134a can be had as cheap as $6/12oz can in the winter, and isn't worth having a shop recover for monetary gain, though is still required by law and your environmental responsibility. Shops are picky about the quality (system condition...) of R12 they recover, too.

                        Ok so my question is this:

                        Is it possible for a person to remove everything a/c related without dealing with/worrying about R12?

                        I ask because there is an a/c line running directly to the blower unit under the dash and I'd like to take all that crap out, since we won't need it/use it ever, but the a/c line prevents me from doing that since it's like a solid line.

                        Which lines run R12 through them and which just run cold air? Or how does the whole system work??? Bentley doesn't cover this at all, saying "take it to a shop, bla bla bla."

                          All A/C lines share the r12 or r134a... none of the lines just run cool air, the cool air you get is from the cold "evaporator" when the blower fan blows the air through it.

                            So then (since I've never dealt with a/c, obviously) is it not dangerous to remove the lines???

                              It's not dangerous after the r12/134 has been removed. Just take it to a shop to discharge the system and then start ripping shit out!
