A mystery wire... what is it?

Coming out from work today, I noticed what appears to be a cut / sheared wire hanging down next to the passenger side rear wheel. It scared the crap out of me at first, so I drove home very carefully, and took this pic:

Can someone tell me what it is, where it goes, how to fix it, and if it's ok to drive until I do fix it? It doesn't appear to be causing any adverse effects, so I don't know what to do.

If that's true, that's probably why the brake lining light came on recently. The pads appear to be in good shape.

hahah mine did that as well, cept it got caught in the wheel and ripped the connector off at around 80mph (nice little clunk)

needless to say I don't have a brakepad sensor light anymore :D

Come to think of it, I did hear a small clunk under the car shortly before that light came on.

              Excellent, thanks for the help.

Those are studded snow tires, and I actually got them at Wal-Mart! I commonly refer to them as the rally car tires.

your wheels are going to fall off. that is the saftey wire that holds the entire rear hub assemblies on.

you're only hope is to drive the car in reverse from now on.
and periodically oil your muffler bearings, and check your blinker fluid too.
