    Please help!! No spark

I have a 89 325i, getting no spark. Its been misfiring for the last few weeks and I finally go to pull it into the garage and it dies on me, now it wont start. Tried replacing the wires and plugs and ignition coil, with no results. Cap and rotor look brand new, no cracks. What else could it be, could a bad cps be doing this?

Please help me, this is super frustrating.

Check the CPS, check the main relay.

Give us more info. Do you get the starter to turn? Do you gave any error lights. Be specific. You could have a lifted ground for the ECU or I'd bet it's the DME relay. Did you ever loose power to anything else? Any specific conditions this happened under? It could be CPS, but prob DME

Hey thanks for the help guys.

So the car turns over. I checked the power going to the ignition coil and when you crank it, it has like 16v going to it, i feel like this is way too high. I was convinced it was ignition related because the car had been misfiring for the past few weeks and I figured it probably just needed wires because thats what it felt like. On saturday, I go to pull the car in the garage, started up fine then halfway up the driveway it dies and i never got it started again. I pulled a spark plug out and connected it to a wire to check for a spark and there is nothing. Now i know its not plugs, wires, coil, cap or rotor. Ive had the yellow inspection light on for over a year now and the red one comes on and turns off randomly. I hope this may clarify a few things, thanks again for your help.

If it was the cps, wouldnt the check engine light come on or the idle be really rough when it was running.

CPS cells the ECU what speed the engine is running at. Without it, the ECU has no idea when to inject fuel or shoot spark. IE car will NOT run with a dead cps

does your car have a 13 button obc.
the reason I ask is I had an e30 I
bought and was told had the same symptons
as yours and behind the abs computor there
is a black box with two small plugs going into
it mine had a circut in that box that corroded
and broke connection. car cranked great but
had no spark. don't believe it had fuel either.
I am sure this is only true on the 13 button ones
the six button do not have this.

Check the wire to the CPS. If the insulation fails the wire will short out on the fan pulley or the timing cover. It begins intermittently and finally shorts out resulting in no-start.
