try jump starting it and see if the voltage still drops with 2 batteries, you never saaid whether or not your plugs were wet tho... also try regaping your plugs just to make sure the spark is strong enough and big enough.

the gap in the middle that the spark jumps between is set to a specific distance you can get a spark plug gapper for like 50 cents to a buck and then look in your manuel what the plugs are supposed to be at and gap away.

no spark, if you have a distributer change the the cap and rotor or just the cap depending on if they're both worn out, and if you havn't changed your plugs do those, i hear bosche supers are good for E30's and pretty cheap too, also if yuo havn't ever done your wires and they feel really weak or the caps are corroded do those too and you'll be off to the races and while your plug shopping look for some 8mm plug wires if thats possible. a better voltage

My automatic 318i M40 does that too occasionally. Sometime it just turns off for a second and then restarts itself. Other times u need to restart it yourself, not cool whren you going 160km/h on the freeways. I was convinced that it was my fuel pump and my mechanic even took it out to bench check it but nothing. Other than that my car is in perfect mechanical order. Only think i think it can now be is a dodgy ECU or a bad relay somewhere.

Well from what i have been told its not good to have wet plugs at all, personally i think you should just wreck your car, and considering your in autralia ill take your engine for parts, ill even pick it up for free just to take it off your hands!! :D

Anyways hope it gets better soon, just put a bandaid on it! she'll be right!!!
