    It died on my... ugh...

    1984 318i Auto...
On the freeway at about 75mph. Engine just died - lights still worked and everything was still on except the engine. Pulled over and turned ignition off, then back on and it started right up.

I've got a new distributor cap, plugs, and rotor... gonna also replace the plug wires w/ something I'll get from Pepboys (for now...).

    Any ideas??????

(Also, my M10 engine seems to make sounds from the engine - sounds like a loose belt...).

I know it needs a valve adjustment now - took a close listen and you can hear the tappity-tappity - pretty loud.

I'm going to start pricing local shops to get it done...

That happened to my old auto once...

...replaced the fuel pump and I was back in business.

It died AGAIN!!! And it idles poorly!

After replacing the fuel filter (w/ a purolator so not sure of the quality) now it stilll died - plus now my idle is crap... jumps around from a little over 500 to over a grand!!! Plus it's at a lower rpm when in drive and reverse and it's about 300 higher in park or neutral.

So now after replacing the fuel filter, distributor cap and rotor, and spark plugs it still dies after about 20 minutes of driving. Just looses power suddenly, then dies... I also loose power sterring, but that's probably because the engine dies.

is your icv valve adjusting for when your engine heats up? what about your temp senders maybe they're screwed up and not working.
