Front Wheel Bearing Question

So I'm changing out my front right wheel bearing because of a vibration. I've got the dust cap off and I've got out my 36mm 1/2 socket and a breaker bar.

It won't budge.

1. Is it a standard righty tighty, lefty loosy nut that holds the bearing onto the stub axle? (Front Axle Collar Nut)

2. Other than a breaker bar extension, how can I get this nut off? Liquid wrench? Upside down CO2 can to cool the metal?

Did you bend back the tab from the axle nut out of the spindle ? If you look real close, there should be a small section of the nut collar that is knocked into a small slot in the spindle, to lock it in place.

Other than that, try a 3' pipe or floor jack handle to get some leverage.

I make sure to crack off the broker part of the collar nut. I'll check that again though to make sure there's nothign left over.

Mainly I want to make sure I'm turning it the proper direction.

You are correct on the way to loosen it. Loosen is anti clockwise when you're facing the car.. How safely and sturdily is your car supported? If you're VERY safely supported...you should be able to break it loose with a little effort. How much pressure are you putting on it? two hands? your foot?....

This is when an air compressor and a pretty good impact wrench comes in handy. Good luck

I got it out with a 3 ft bar and lots of lift with the legs, not with the back...just thought to myself, "hell, these tools all have lifetime warranties."

All is well and the bearing is replaced! :)

i put the car on the grounda dn stood on my braker bar and kinda hopped a little until it came loose, then jacked the car up and took it off

I assume you used a puller to get the bearing off...

What did you use to reinstall it? The Bentley manual just says to use special tools and press it in.

By special tool, they mean rubber mallet :)
