What does a dealer charge for tune-up?

I just changed my spark plugs, wires, dist cap, and rotor for around $190.

so my question is... has anyone ever had a mechanic or the stealership mechs do this for their car? If so, how much did it cost?

My dad and I are trying to figure out how much we saved in labor alone doing this.

    Thanks in advance

You're probably saving money on parts too since the dealer likes to charge more, most of the time.

You probably wouldve paid $190 in labor alone at most dealers around here.

I just changed all of mine for $70.

When you get a tune up they only change the above? Whenever I've had them done by a mechanic they change all of the above plus the fuel, air and oil filters, plus change the oil and adjust the valves. I don't have my receipts here with me to give you a quote. I know that I've been charged $90 for a valve adjust though.

BMW dealer, $100/hr. Independent mech, 60-80/hr.

Just multiply that by how many hours it took you. Its actually often best to go off n00b hours too because they charge you by a billable hour. Even if it only took half.

The techincal anwser is a shit load. I just use what I save on buying new useful tools. I have a pretty nice collection now. Too bad I have to leave it at my dads place until I buy a house. :x

Tranny change is a big job, so is rear diff. Not even close in comparison to a tune up.

                    Keep it slideways!!

he meant the oil inside them, both of which take 10 minutes on a lift with a drain and a pump.

and you guys are talking about an inspection II which includes all of the above (minus cap/rotor and wires) plus the micro filter as well

                            27 FRU for inspection 1, 33 FRU for inspection 2 on a e30 325i.

8 FRU/ Hour, you do the math.

I'll agree that it is pointless to bring your 20 year old e30 to the dealership, but for people with newer BMWs its usually the best choice.

you saved a ton of money, the stealer charger insane amounts for very simple jobs. However, valve adjustments on my s14 havn't been that bad... only like 150 for the whole job. Granted, if you have the right tools and have done it before it usually shouldn't take that long... but for the s14, it seems everytime a professional has to pop the hood you should just reach for your ankles....
