    Steering wheel removal

I need to take my SRS steering wheel off to replace it with the Mtech 1. What precautions must I take in dealing with the airbag? Please let me know ASAP as I would like to do this tonight. Thanks in advance.

precautions? disconnect the battery, wait 20 minutes, then remove the steering wheel.

Once done connect a good length of wire to the airbag leads (+ and -) and stand at the other end of the long lead you made with a battery or power supply etc (12v DC) and connect em.

make sure the airbag is laying face down, so when the airbag explodes it rockets the assembly into the sky.

This is fun. Watch it fall though, make sure you don't get it upside the head.

I got a little confused about this also, i was used to the button on my old sport steering wheel. Just put the wheel on and hit 1 of the 3 buttons. You will need to make a spacer for the wheel though, there was a thread in the general discussioni about this some time ago.

I'm sorry, I don't mean how do I use it...I mean, mow do I hook it up so it works? I am still having trouble putting the wheel on so it works right. Any help would be great. Thus far, the wheel works, but it is kinda loose (I can pull it towards me and push it back. The turn signals dont turn off after the turn. I want to make sure I'm doing this right, so please help me.

you need to make a spacer that goes beind the nut, not just washers right on the "spindel" part of it, but something bigger on the smooth part behind it. i used pvc pipe cut to fit. there was a spacer type thing on mine already, i made one out of pvc that was the same size as that one, and used both together and got good spacing. no more being able to pull it and the turn signal return should work.

I didn't use any type of spacer, and just put 2 or so washers on the inside (on top of) the nut. The wheel has a metal contact on the back that touches a contact on the steering column which will make the horn work.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

Yeah, you just put the wheel on, thats how the horn works.

And like dan said, you need a spacer big enough to fit over the splined part, as some of it sticks through.

How much do those M-tech I steering wheels go for?
I have 3 sitting in my storage room.

the precautions are kinda useless.. i took mine out without disconnecting the batter or anything. just be careful, no abrupt movements, and unplug the orange connector as soon as you have the front cover off and put it down somewhere.

and yeah you'll need a little spacer for the back, otherwise the new wheel wont fit, i just used a couple of washers to push it out a little.
