    Flex Disk Delete

I want to get rid of my flex disk, but I want to know what you guys have done about it. Did you just bolt the output flange of the tranny to the driveshaft flange? They look like they line up, and the hardware should be long enough to fit through. Also, how much torque should I give it? Same amount as the flex disk? Thanks in advance.

I've never heard of this being done, and I could be wrong, but it seems like a bad idea.

Maybe on race cars that constantly would blow them but its stupid on a streetcar.

Guibos arent expensive and any idiot can change them. Just keep it.
      Im now E30less.

Well, I was to get rid of it because my Z4 3.0 shifter causes the throw arm (horizontal piece) to hit the cover, and I don't want to bend it. The flex disc is in pretty good shape, but IIRC Jordan deleted his.

You can take off the vibration damper (the big thing around the flex disc, which only some cars have), but it's dumb to get rid of the flex disc itself.

If your shift arm is hitting the actual Guibo, i think you might want to check your mounts, etc.

Or just bend the rod, it'll be fine and if it somehow snaps, i'ts easy to change.

I removed the vibration dampener around the flex disc.... not the flex disc.

Yea, you're talking about the harmonic balancer.

I have a Z4 3.0 in a car with the bigger guibo, and no stupid vibration damper - it fits perfect.

What's the point of removing the vibration dampner? I doubt they'd put it there for no reason...

DId you guys notice a difference at all?

Re-read the name a few times, you will realize what it does.

No one I know has ever noticed any difference.

Thanks for clearing that up guys, I thought the metal "vibration dampener" and flex disc were one and the same. It's getting removed for sure when I replace my seeping rear tranny seal.

They made some cars without them - obviously it's ok to take it off. It's just unneeded. ;)

While installing a new driveshaft last night / this morning, I was told to not put the harmonic balancer back in. So I didn't. What are the pro's of not having one?

                            it-is-not-a-fucking-harmonic-balancer

that is at the front of the engine.

removing drivetrain rotational weight has much the same effect as lightening the flywheel.

quicker rev up/down, more power reaches the wheels.
