Yesterday while at idle my check engine light came on. 30 seconds after I pulled off from the light, my car started to chug roughly, almost like it was out of gas. Suddenly my acccelerator went dead. I mean dead peddle. One last chug and the car shut off. Last time my check engine light came on, i needed an 02 sensor. That was changed 6 months ago. After that I was dealing with idle surge. Disconnected my idle control valve, the car ran smoother so I changed out the ICV. The car ran like brand new. So this time I popped the hood. No smells, no leaks nothing. My car is a 92 E30 MT2vert appearance pak with 142k. Never broken down before. Ever. As I was waiting for a tow to arrive, figured I'd try the key again. Car started right up and has been running like brand new since then. Any ideas? What do you guys think? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys.....G.

Read out the fault code(s) stored in the DME and see why the CEL came on. That should provide a clue as to the cause of the shutdown. If the TPS is good, the stomp test should work. Otherwise you need the services of a diagnostic computer. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
